From Collection I, Congregation History; Series I, Founders; envelope read "cross from the black cape of Msgr. John J. Prendergast (a vestment set presented to him) with his initials on it. The vestments, quite old and tattered, were being disposed of when the vestments were moved from the rectory at O'Farrell Street to the new cathedral at Geary and Gough, 1970. The cross was taken off its cape where it served as the clasp, by Sister Michaela and saved by her. On the 1st centenary she carried it to the pulpit in Mission San Jose at the celebration there, and it was in her hand as she read the epistle. Sister M. Michaela, June 15, 1977"
