Holy Union Sisters Media and Audiovisual Collection

 Collection
Identifier: 2023.04

Content Description

The materials of the Media and Audiovisual Collection contain non-textual materials produced by the North American, Fall River, and Groton Provinces of the Holy Union Sisters since their arrival in the United States and through the present. The contents of this collection reflect the activity, ministry, and community trends within the Sisters in the 20th century, as well as their relations with other Provinces, mission work overseas, and the broader expansion and decline of Catholic education between 1945 and 1999. The collection is arranged per the Mollette system, and reflects the organization of the community and its activities, and is divided into series primarily on a form basis, as opposed to the subject-based categorization used elsewhere in the Archives.

Series P covers publications, the materials produced for circulation and consumption outside of the congregation. In this collection those materials are primarily banners and promotional items.

Series Q covers temporalities, the financial and real estate holdings of the community and their management. This series includes blueprints, plans, surveys, and other materials directly relating to real estate and building.

Series S covers valuable writings and artifacts, and comprises the bulk of the collection. Subseries 3S contains photographs, loose or arranged in albums. Subseries 4S1 contains audiovisual materials such as tapes, discs, and motion film, subseries 4S2 contains photographic slides, and subseries 4S3 contains newspaper clippings.
