Series II: Homilies, (1961-1998), bulk: 1962 - 1974
Scope and Content
This series consists of working drafts of Father Markey’s homilies. The homilies are typewritten, composed using an outline format, and often include Markey’s handwritten notes in the margins. Each homily is about one to two pages in length and includes the date that Markey gave the homily. The materials are organized into folders according to the liturgical calendar. Most of the homilies were written for Sunday services. The series includes homilies given on the beginning of Advent, Christmas, Easter, Lent, Pentecost, the fourth Sunday after Epiphany, the fifth Sunday of the year, the 15th Sunday of the year, the 16th Sunday of the year, the Sunday of the Feast of Christ the King, Trinity Sunday, and homilies given on various feast days. The series also contains a bibliography of Markey’s private book collection and a folder of receipts from various book sellers.
