This series contains newspaper clippings of Father Markey’s weekly column, “As Seen from Here." The series includes single copies of the 1975-1977 columns that appeared in the Aptos, California publication Cabrillo Times, as well as multiple copies of 1980-1983 columns that appeared in the Capitola, California publicationGreen Sheet. The series also contains columns published in theGreen Sheet from 1980-1986. Most of the clippings have a printed or handwritten date on them, although there are some without a date. In addition, the series includes a few newsletters and programs, a bookmark, and a copy of an article written about Father Markey on his 90th birthday, among other materials. The subject matter of “As Seen from Here” varies each week, and the articles are usually written in the style of a devotional. Popular subjects include politics, elections, family life, relationships, holidays, science, religion, popular culture, homosexuality, current events, and California history. Father Markey’s columns regularly include literary and biblical references.
