 Person

Biography

Father Louis C. Rudolph, S.J., was the twentieth President of Santa Clara University and served from 1935 to 1940. Prior to serving at Santa Clara, Father Rudolph was the Dean of Arts at Loyola University in Los Angeles. He became President on July 14, 1935, taking over the role a year before the tenure of his predecessor, Father Lyons, was supposed to end. Football was still being played at Santa Clara, and the funds it brought in were used to pay for non-athletic budgets. In 1938, President Rudolph used the Sugar Bowl games ticket sales to help pay for Bergin Hall, the College of Law’s new building.
