Biography

Timothy L. Murphy was president from 1918 to 1921. He was born February 20, 1880 in San Francisco, California and died August 13, 1929 in Santa Clara, California. Murphy was a supporter of Irish freedom and subscribed $1000 to the cause at a public rally held at SCU in March of 1920. During the first years of his tenure, athletics thrived; however, football was dropped in 1921, with President Murphy stating that students were overly obsessed with the game and not focused on their academic pursuits. Murphy left the presidency in 1921 due to his failing health.
